Title: Member's Unofficial Trophies
Post by: Michael on October 08, 2009, 09:02:16 AM
This is for Trophy's that were not entered into the record book. Let’s see what you, your family members and relatives have. :cheesy:
   •   We would like everyone to post a picture, story, and Unofficial score.(who scored it?)
   •   WE would ask that whoever harvested the animal be a member. Unless they are deceased.
   •   Once they are a member it's OK for you to post for them.
   •   You may go back in time, say ten years.

Bucklucky taped it out at camp. He said it's 256 and same change. It will have it scored at the Puyallup show this year.

Washington Big Game Records book, 1st Edition - page 24 bottom left.  "Cascade" blacktail - something like 137 but there were a ton of deductions.  Can't remember the gross score and it was before I started carrying a camera around with me, so don't have a digital version of that photo (I actually don't know what happened to the original, either.  Kind of disappointed.)

Cool ... tmike next time get the g-4's in the pic!   anyway tmike and I put a very unnoficial tape to that bull before any of us knew what we were doing and came up with something in the nieborhood of 275 or so and the Wa big game book for Muzzleloader Elk is 255 so this one would make it in there easily IMO! I think you should have someone like bow4elk come out and score it officially ... Nice job tmike!

My best rifle bull. Had him scored at the Sportsman show in Puyallup a long time ago. They did it in a hurry so the score may be less or more by a tad. I brought it in after the contest was over and they scored it for me anyway.

He went 289 6/8 net. Cascade Roosevelt. Mashel Unit.

Taxidery was done by Fred of Peter's Taxidery in Graham, WA. $750 17 years ago.

This buck was green scored grossing right around 200"  Pic really doesnt do it just.........30 wide...older regressed buck....no teeth or fat...mass allover and the bases are COVERED in stickers LONG ONES!!!

Long story as to why I dont have the antlers......and I really need to get them but I have a hard time starting a war over a some damn antlers but this is prolly one of the only set of horns I would like to get mounted.....A buck my dad shot.....I think in 87 a little passed the 10 years mark but oh well..........I need to do some more digging and see if I can find some better shots of it..............

Some day I'll have this deer...  40" 3 pointer with double eye guards on each side...  I think it dried to 38.5" or 39" but he tells me it was a true 40" for a few years and then he put it over the fireplace, etc...   :bash:

Aweful mount on it.  That will be remounted when I get it.  I think it has a kicker on one side too if I remember right and I can see it in the pictures.  I had this in our house for a few years until he wanted it back...lol.

Moss- if you have a chance at getting them no matter how small of a chance you need to do whatever it takes to get a hold of those antlers thats a stud!!!

Shawn- what would be cool is to go harvest a buck from the same area and put the new cape on that buck

It has never really been scored.  I think I tried to do it when I was younger but I didn't know how.  I don't think I did any mass measurements and didn't know how to score the double eye guards and kicker.  Some day...

Moss, you need to get those antlers.

Pope, that buck is definately deserving of a nwe cape, Holy Smokes!

I would venture to say it is 190+. I saw a  3 pt. 190" Booner and it wasn't as wide as that and the front forks were not that deep. It had more mass though. I would love to know what that masher scores!!!!!!!!

Here we all sit patiently waiting.

I'm thinking around 180.
Title: Re: Member's Unofficial Trophies
Post by: popeshawnpaul on December 14, 2009, 03:31:55 PM
Maybe someone here can guess a score until I get a chance to measure it.  Here are approximte measurements.  I know the tip to tip has dried to 38.5" because it was sitting over a fireplace for 20 years.  I don't know how to measure the eye guards or the mass.  I guess the spread is too wide so you take the beam length as well.  It will be complicated to score but I'll get all the measurements and let you guys figure it out.

For me I don't care about score anyways.  Show me a picture of a bigger 3 pointer...  I've never seen one bigger.  Do they keep a record book for big 3 pointers?
Title: Re: Member's Unofficial Trophies
Post by: popeshawnpaul on December 14, 2009, 03:45:43 PM
A lot of you know Lulu the moose...

Palm lengths -30" & 29"
Palm Widths - 9" & 9"
outside spread - 44.5"
beam mass -7" & 7"
points - 7 & 8 pts

I gross scored him approximately 150 and net around 147 or so.  B&C minimum is 140" if I recall...

I attended a Mule Deer Foundation banquet in Olympia about 17-18 years ago and the was a 40" 3x3 point muley mount on display. I wish I had some info on it. There were probably 25 bucks on display, all huge and thats the only one I remember.

Ok here is a rookie attemt at scoring that buck. Mass measurements I guessed. Was not sure about the main beam length either. 160 is pretty darn good for a 3 point. Like you said Pope score mean very little to me either. I have never entered any of my elk into the books. I have not killed a deer big enough to worry about so

Add in 2 more mass measurements off that g-2, probably about 3 2/8 each. They still get all 4 mass measurements even if they are only a fork.

What I find interesting is if that thing had a 4th point, it would be a 200" buck right?  Maybe more?  I guess that makes sense if the back forks are 12" or so?  Wierd.  My amateur attempt to score it years ago came up with high 170's but I don't think I counted all the mass measurements because I didn't know where to score it.  I probably also scored the spread instead of the beam length...

Well the sportsman show would have been your easiest way but you can google official scorers in your area and they will do it and enter it for you ... try bow4elk and we could at least steer you in the right direction if he can't do it.

What is the minimum mule deer score to get in Boone & Crockett?  WA
Title: Re: Member's Unofficial Trophies
Post by: M_ray on March 30, 2010, 09:37:48 AM
For the WA big game book the minimums are:

                                Rifle    Archery   Blk Powder     Shed
Mule Deer (typical)       170      145        146               70

Mule Deer (non-typical) 190      160        175               80

Boone & Crockett Minumums are:

                                 Awards         All Time

typical mule deer              180             190

non-typical mule deer        215             230

Dennis, this one was shot by my Grandpa on the "Johnson Ranch" as my grandfather tells me.  It cost him $125 in 1964 and he got to kill two bucks.  This is the smaller one and the other one was not as wide, but was a good 4 point.  This ranch was just east of Burns, OR.  Yep, maybe a Malheur buck...
