Daughter dropped her Toyota Tacoma off so I could change out a bad wheel bearing. [common problem with these trucks]. I just sent her this pic and told her I might need the truck a little longer

wow, headed out of Everett marina yesterday, haven't seen traffic like that except when the humpies are in    thought it would be lighter due to the one day opener ,figured everyone would wait for the long 4th weekend

was able to get a couple of limits with a 4 to 5 hour soak.  some actually pretty nice size 7 3/4 to 8 inch.

cant wait to see what the weekend is like

General Discussion / Buying a point option
« on: June 21, 2013, 10:35:47 AM »
One of our contractors came  into my office this morning grumbling about the draw system here in Washington, [ this is a every year deal with him after the draw]  complaining about not being drawn in 9 years , bla bla bla......after B.S.ing with him a little bit it turns out that he has been buying a point option on most of the tags he wants.....what the hell?, how can you complain about not drawing if you are not in the draw?  Its like buying a lottery ticket but you don't want them to send you the money, just make sure I get a chance at it next time.

As slim as your chances are why would you not want to be in?  Maybe they should be included in the drawing and if they are pulled it would read... Drawn/ point option used.

The week after the draws have become quite comical around here, with all the grumbling and "Im not applying, and or hunting in this state ever again, etc. etc.

and for what its worth I don't think the system is perfect, but its what we have to work with. I often wonder whats going to happen if the system falls apart and your points are worthless?

nothing special, but I carry a little point and shoot with me out in the field, some  of the images of the trip,   repacking the trailer now to head ot for the general elk season.

General Discussion / "i'm a meat hunter"
« on: April 14, 2011, 07:54:53 PM »
I heard this phrase the other day while looking at some picturers with a friend, he said it like he was making excuses for the size of the racks on the animals  he had harvested over the years. It really got me to thinking today........

I spent a good part of my younger life chasing critters, usually working for guides and outfitters, or later in life working for myself, I was totally consumed with scores, and usually involved trying to talk somone out of taking an animal because he could do better. I cant even recall how many bears I have talked people out of looking for the "perfect" skull.

fast foward and nowadays I tend to enjoy the hunting camp, the family and friends that I share them with as much as chasing the critters , hunting alongside my grown daughters is an unbelievable  joy as well as my good friend and hunting partner, we tend not to worry about the score as much as the memory, the harvesting of a legal animal, the nights around the campfire.

now don't get me wrong, if I draw a coveted permit I will give it everything I have to due the permit justice....I passed a couple of bulls up last year with a peaches ridge tag because I knew I could do better, I ended up eating the tag and dont regret it one bit.

but in reality I think I am just a meat hunter  ::):
