Yard Birds - Post Yours
« on: February 24, 2011, 11:53:03 PM »
Well, we are almost at spring.  The birds are singing and active and I took a ton of shots in my yard today.  I have more I'll add tomorrow.

Here is a dark eyed junco and the slate form.  The other is the spotted towhee.

Shawn,
Great shots as usual, do you notice it's hard to pull in the beaks
on the Juncos. I don't know if its the color contrast?

With the flat light i had it wasn't too hard and I overexposed my shots a bit too.  In sunny light they are difficult to shoot.  I missed out on my Bewick's Wren that has been hanging around but I got a few others I'll post.  There are two forms of Dark Eyed Juncos at my house.  I have the "oregon" and "slate" forms.

My hummingbirds are tired of the frozen juice.  They want spring...

Shawn,
I don't mind saying I am inspired to go out and try to get better shots.
You work is the standard and the rest of us are trying to get there.

Thank you for the kind words Tdog.  I just like to take pictures for fun man.  Looks like you got a cooperative spotted towhee, song sparrow, and dark eyed junco too.  I love the towhees.  If you ever get the eye in decent light it is bright red.  Sometimes those song sparrows think they are wrens with their tails in the air, etc.  Great stuff man!

Brute- No these are with the Pentax gear. Right now
all I have is a smaller zoom for the Canon.

Shawn,
Usually the Towhee's are horrible shy- the last two days
they have been very cooperative.

Let's all go out and gets some more........

Shawn,
I am starting to think that you and I are the only ones using our
gear!!!!!!!  I was across town yesterday and noticed house finches
and chickadees which we do not get here. I will have to work on that.

I commend your dedication, guys.  Great shots.  This guy was chasing the robins around in my neighborhood today and stopped long enough for me to take a few shots out the back door.
