well my advice to you is to get over here this summer and secure some private ground to hunt.  The majority of the big bulls are on private.

I drew this late dec tag and I know it can be good or not good.I put in for this because it's the only regular draw bull tag that is worth any chance to me for muzzleloader. I didn't use my quality bull pts and with muzz as my choice I didn't have any other choices that appealed.  I know getting land owner permission is a key to success depending on weather since it's in December. But personally I don't see the difference between me killing a bull on private land if its in a hay field than a tribal member killing a bull in December winter range land. I went over checking out the big private land owners in Teanaway last week and decided not to ask permission. I will take my chances no matter the weather and will only hunt state and federal land.  I feel like an idiot because my wife went with me last week and she asked me "you would shoot a bull that was out in this field"?  Then I realized what I was trying to set myself up to do.
Thank you men and women of the military!

Land owners don't only own fields ... a good majority of it is timbered. The other thing is that if you want at them on state land you may still need landowner permission cause the vast majority of it is locked up and you will need it to get to the herds.  :twocents:

in fact most of them are timbered as we all know.  These elk at this time of year are tired of being chased around. They cram the late archery season in there.  An absolute ton of bow hunters chase them around looking for cows. then muzzy then modern.  They go to where they think they are safe plus go to where the feed is.  So if you want to hunt fs land have at it.  But when your driving by and see a 370+ bull standing in a field as you drive by and you can't find any elk anywhere else. Hmmmm!  It doesn't make you any less of a hunter.  Makes a smart hunter to ask for permission to hunt where the animals are. Might want to have a back up plan.  I live here and put in for the muzzy tag and never get drawn.  just love how the state limits ew to only one unit with nice bulls in the late season.

Thanks for the advice guys. I used my GPS hunting maps and did see how much of the private land runs from the valley floor up on to the hill sides.

Exactly  :cheesy: You may see them in the fields but those hillsides are where they are going to end up and that's where you'll need to be, or somewhere in between  :twocents: ... good luck!

Nothing for me but seeing 6 monster bulls on private land.  Actually right near the hwy heading into the T valley. One was a pig with huge tops. Hardly any snow in the valley. I had other guys in my small patches I hoped to hit especially first day.
Thank you men and women of the military!
