Yeti cooler review
« on: July 08, 2013, 10:01:27 AM »
I recently purchased a 65 quart Yeti cooler, and this last weekend was the initial tryout.  With the crazy price tag ($389), I struggled to decide whether this was worth the money.  But I can say now that I'm very pleased with the purchase.  Here's the skinny - I loaded up the cooler with food and beverages and one 3 lb. bag of ice at 3pm on Wednesday in 80 degree heat, then drove over to Yakima and left that cooler outside where the temp hit 90 degrees each day.  That single bag of ice still had ice in it Saturday night (after 3+ days), and everything was still plenty cold on Sunday when I departed for home.  Yes, you can buy a lot of ice for $389.  But if you're in camp and can't readily get replacement ice, or you need to keep your meat cold on a long trip home, or you don't like all the melted ice getting your food soggy, it will be tough to beat this.  It will also allow you to pack more food, because one bag of ice does the job of three.

I've got the 165, and want the 200+ quart model for meat transport.  The biggest one is a little too big.  The 165 fully loaded is a chore for two guys the way it is.  Great built coolers though.

I got lucky and won a 65 at a PH banquet a couple years ago, I have not been nice to it by any means and its held up perfectly so far.
