it just blows me away that guys don't think a deer is worth 66 bucks. its kinda like cutting off your nose to spite your face. i realize price increases are not anyones favorite thing, but if deer hunting is one of your favorite things all your doing is cheating your self out of more hunting for less than the price of taking your wife to the movies.i don't get it

$66 for tag
$100 for fuel
$30 for food
$3 ammo(should only need one)
$20 for vac seal bags
$40 for pepperoni sticks

$259- total for 1 day and a doe.
60 lbs cut and wrapped meat= $4.31 per pound

I can buy alot of good burger and tri tips for $4.31/lb

I don't agree with the price hike for the tag but I also can't look at it as $$/pound. If I did that my wife would choke me to death when I hook up my boat, fill it with 70 gallons, fill the truck with 42 gallons, and head out.

 Cost of truck=$$$
 Cost of boat=$$$
 Cost of fuel=$$$
 Cost of bait=$$$
 Cost of food=$$$
 Cost of license=$$$
 Cost of gear=$$$
 Cost of motel/camp site=$$$

I seriously doubt I will eat that much money worth of fish in my life if I was to spend that combined total at the grocery store.

Cost of spending the weekend fishing with my kids..........priceless!!!

To me its not that a deer isn't worth 66 bucks but the fact that it was 26 and the increase is nearly triple the price  If they tripled the price of fuel to 12 bucks a gallon would you still feel the same??? I think not, Look this state is already the most expensive to hunt in the west. I spend just about the same to hunt and fish in my home state as I do in Montana or Idaho which is very sad AND the youth in our state are really getting the shaft because they don't get the same breaks other states do to make it affordable for the parents to introduce them to the sport. If you have 1 or 2 kids you will spend well over a thousand dollars with tags and permits to take your kids hunting and fishing. I'm all about the state making revenue to meet the budget short falls but triple is gouging plain and simple not to mention some of your hunting dollars will be spent on the very thing you don't support which is the reintroduction of wolves. That part makes me more mad than spending 66 on a doe!!!

One of the reasons they did do the increase was they noticed all the other states raised their rates and they weren't commensurate with the increases in the other states.  They had not done it in a while so they felt justified.

Man, I don't know - I feel like I get gouged in every other state.

I just dropped about $400 for an OTC archery deer hunt in AZ with a 10% success rate.  If I want to apply for the regular fall draw, I get to pay $225 all over again for that deer tag, but I can only shoot ONE DEER between the two tags!

I don't hunt there, but isn't Montana nearly $1,000 for the deer/elk combo now?  In WA, you can pretty much buy every license possible for three people for less than a grand.

In Wyoming, I had the privilege of paying about $550 for a single deer tag.  If I want to shoot a grouse, that's an extra $90!  For grouse!

In Idaho and Wyoming, you can pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $1800 for the privilege of shooting a cow moose!

Again, I don't think $66 is all that much.  It's really the shock of going from $26 to $66 all at once.  If those second tags had been dubbed a "premium" (more expensive) tag from the beginning 10 or so years ago, no one would be complaining.

Yes but WAcoues you are quoting Non- res prices!!! Go look at what the  residents pay in those states and compare them to our resident cost's.  Sure they raised prices but not 3 fold Oregon almost doubled the price of a license but not by 3.  Our resident prices feel awfully close to A non resident schedule.

Understood, it is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison.  My point was simply that the $66 is not that much when we look at other hunting options.  I haven't had reason to focus on the resident prices elsewhere, but don't doubt that they are cheaper for residents of those states.  Each state has its pros and cons, Washington included.  For example, in Arizona, you can't buy a second tag at any price, let alone $66, and you have to draw your general buck tag every year - advantage Washington.  I just don't think $66 for the opportunity to harvest a second deer is all that bad.

Agreed  I don't think its that much either but it is still nearly triple which IMO is gouging plain and simple! My point is that the price we pay to play in our own home state is nearly the cost of a non res tag elsewhere ... that is sad!
