Glen, the new ones are way better. They don't come with that heavy, brown twisty thing sticking out of the top....drops like 40lbs off of the pack weight.

I am not a fan of the top closure but I do like the comfort of the pack and many of its features.  The bag material, although very light, is not very durable.  I spent 8 days in the desert mountains in NM in August and it got a little tore up.  It does fit me very well including the shoulder and waist straps.

I was planning to pick up a 6000 bag for my Yukon hunt but now that the Gen 2 is out I may start over.

I may end up getting one of these. I finally got an email back saying they would take it back within 60 days if not broken or destroyed, basically everything Benny has said. It's worth a try!

The 5000 will be my choice. hopefully the fabric will last and not tear!

Haha, I totally missed that!  But seriously, I am not a huge fan of the top closure system.  Are the new ones like that?

Not sure what the old ones are like. My only exsposure to these are the couple is videos they have online. Check them out and see if you can see any difference. I am curious as to what you are not a fan of?

My gen 1 has done ok for me but just ok, I would diffidently try out the 2012 model if you are sold on having a KUIU.

Parts that i don't like is the hip belt squeaking, once it fills up with dust and crap it starts making noise I'm about a 30-32 inch waste and the belt is a little to big for me but I make it work. The inside pockets are to small to really fit anything but I use pullouts most of the time anyways. at 80+ pounds the carbon fiber fame makes some spooky noises like its going to snap in half when your putting it on and taking it off (im usually not to nice to it when i do this)

Benny-

You sold on your stone glacier pack? how is it for noise when dirty? Over all construction?
I am just not sold on the whole single bag concept. maybe its just a little OCD on how i pack everytime.

I do like it. It isn't fleece so there is some noise but pack noise doesn't bother me. It is built really well and has held up really well. I was only able to use it the last half of the season but it was a busy half of the season and it packed out a decent amount of critters really well. Having just the one compartment doesnt bother me at all....especially when you pick it up empty and it feels like your kids school batman backpack at a few pounds. If you're on the westside of the state your more than welcome to take mine for a spin if you would like....
