christmas came early
« on: December 15, 2012, 10:07:51 AM »
my uncle back east sent me a early Christmas present and it showed up yesterday. my grand fathers old Fred bear re curve. its a beautiful bow,not sure what year but I'm thinking early 60's from my dads recollections. ill post some pics when i get a chance but I'm at work right now. i need some info on a good restoration guy if any of you know one. the bows actually in great shape but i want to bring it back to its full pristine glory and am willing to pay to do it. my grandfather was everything to me, but he died when i was pretty young, the few things i have of his are my greatest treasures and this one is right up at the top. any info would be appreciated, local or not. thanks guys

my uncle is shipping me out his old 12 gauge today. my dad says he remembers throwing clays for Appa when he was just big enough to throw um for him. don't know just what model it is but its from the 50's. really looking forward to that. i didn't get to hunt with my grandfather but i feel like he's with me every time i hunt, these things are true treasures to me.

Very cool Buf.  That bow looks like it is in great shape already.  I would clean it real well and call it good.  One of my favorite Christmas presents that I ever did was sneaking out my step dads old rusty JC Higgins sxs.  I completely restored it and then put a nameplate on it and gave it back.  He hasn't hunted since he was a kid, but it was his dads and he will pass it onto his son.  Great memories tied to that old shotgun.  I made sure to bust some quail with it before I gave it back and it still shot straight.  I love old guns and bows.

nothing more i would rather do, and it is in shooting condition. but Appa was left handed,i am not. Ive thought about teaching myself to shoot left handed, i am a bit ambidextrous but i think that may mess me up more than help me in the end.

I had a bow exactly like that one.  Loaned it to a "friend" and never saw it again.  Lost a muzzleloader the same way, I've got to be more careful who I loan stuff to. :bash:
