i think 20* will be pretty warm and more versatile than a 10 or 0. i sleep warm and also have a warm layer to wear when temps drop. what remains to be seen is if my pad will be sufficient for R value. only one way to find that out

I've yet to use a quilt.  I have a +15 REI bag that I use with my Thermarest 3/4 Guide I am barely warm enough on really chilly nights in a tent, but I think that has more to do with my old Thermarest than anything (especially only being a 3/4 length).

I'm gonna start looking at Big Agnes sleeping pads.

I decided on the Exped Synmat 7 over some of the Big Agnes, because it compacts smaller and is lighter weight from what I have seen so far depending on what version of Big Agnes you are looking at.  I was comparing inflatables.

Just thought you might like to look at those as well

The Exped's are nice but the new BA Q-core SL's have a LOT higher R-value (5 vs 3.1) and are 5 oz heavier plus 3.5" thick (21 oz vs.  16.2).  I know the BA is listed at 19 oz but Rokslide members have it around 21...  It's an option for a higher R value pad at least!

New gear for me this year has included so far:
Sawyer inline filter,
MSR 6L dromlite bag with hydration tube kit (going to splice the Sawyer inline with it).
Seek outside Lil Bug Out shelter
Firstlite Puffy jacket, rain jacket, merino bottoms, merino vest, merino heavy long zip-T, Cold weather pants, neck gaitor, and their compression socks.  Will get their brimmed beanie likely as well.

What I would like to purchase further:

BA Q-core SL mummy cut
Either going to rock a slick bag or one of the Rev X quilts and Borah bivy.  Haven't decided yet.
HCA built carbon fiber barreled 338 Norma 8.5 lbs all done up launching 300 grain bergers at 2800 fps... stay tuned for that one! :)
Would really like to pick up the new Razor HD 12x50 binos but may not happen at this point.

Or you can get an Xtherm with an R value of 5.7 and a weight of 15 oz.

I don't really see how the other pads are even in the ballpark?

Thats awesome! A future hunting partner is way more important than a bunch of new crap.
